Data Security for Printers

Printing equipment such as lasers, large format and print servers require specialist treatment as part of the recycling process. Their high capacity printing is driven by on-board storage devices (Solid state compact flash and Hard Drives) that retain user information and may contain confidential data.

IT-GreenĀ® employs a data security process that removes the risks associated with third party access to such data.

professional disposal of printers

A Professional Recycling Process:

The recycling of printers including inkjet, large format, laser, thermal and dot matrix follows a treatment process that results in:

  • Plastics (Polypropylene, ABS and Polyethylene)
  • Copper
  • Steel
  • Circuit Boards
  • wires & cables
  • Toner Cartridges & ink cartridges
  • Fuser units

Hazardous wastes in Printers

hazardous printer wastes

A vast majority of printing equipment, including all-in-one (fax, copy, scan) and photocopiers contain fluorescent tubes, which by their nature may contain mercury.

IT-Green employs a separation process for such units, which are then turned back into glass inside the UK for use in new light bulbs.

Re-using Equipment

We're aware that the WEEE directive calls for re-use as part of the recycling process and have a UK based end-user market for viable equipment.

Of the wastes we receive at our facility, only some 10% of printers can be re-used. The remainder are either beyond re-use or cheaper to buy from new than to refurbish.

OEM toner cartridges and inkjet cartridges are re-distributed through specialists that ensure their remanufacture and re-use inside the UK.
